Shawn Harris

Security & Transportation Consultant

Former Police Commissioner Shawn Harris is a Security Specialist Consultant with Third Act Development. During his dual military and law enforcement career, he has acquired extensive experience in security operations, planning, and management.

Shawn is a respected law enforcement and security professional and licensed private investigator. He is the President and Founder of MA1 Security & Investigative Services in New Rochelle, New York, and serves the Greater New York City area. He began his security and law enforcement career when he enlisted in the United States Navy, in which he served for over 15 years. During his years of service, he deployed to various locations as a Master-at-Arms (MA) in support of global military operations. MA1 Harris is a Veteran of Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. 

During his over 20 years of law enforcement at the Mount Vernon Police Department, he served in various roles and assignments including the Emergency Services Unit, Mayor’s Security Detail, School Resource Officer, Internal Affairs Investigator, and Sergeant. In 2016, he was appointed as Deputy Police Commissioner with the City of Mount Vernon, NY Police Department. In 2017, he served as Police Commissioner of Public Safety until he retired in January 2020.

Commissioner Harris founded MA1 Security & Investigative Services in 2019 after he saw the need for quality security services for special events and investigative support throughout his career. 

Shawn is heavily involved with several organizations, including ASIS International, as a Chapter Member in Hudson Valley. He is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and The National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE). He is also a member of Infragard, a collaboration between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and members of the private sector for the protection of U.S. Critical Infrastructure, and The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).

He is the recipient of numerous personal awards in recognition of his service. (Please provide a list?)

 Harris is an alum of Mercy University, where he received a Bachelor of Science. He holds a number of licenses, which include New York State Licensed Private Investigator, H.R. 218 Law Enforcement Officer's Safety Act, and is a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), and Certified SDVOB agency.
